Join us at our September virtual artist peer group, an opportunity to hear from two artists about their practice. Our peer groups provide the space for artists to share active ideas, projects and challenges, with peer support from audience participants.
Our two artists this month are Sukhy Hullait and Marianne McGurk.
The event takes place over Zoom with a break in the middle.
Sukhy Hullait is a photographer making social documentary and portrait work. He has also been teaching and leading workshops and has taught over 1000 people.
Sukhy will be sharing work on young carers. He has cared for two people since he was a child and there are many who largely go unnoticed. Sukhy started the work to meet other carers and understand their experiences so that he can help tell their stories. Sukhy has a book scheduled for later this year and would like to partner with an organisation to launch workshops to coincide with the launch.
Marianne McGurk has just completed a masters in photography at UCLAN. Her subject of research was grief, loss and trauma after the death of her mother. Her final major project titled "This is how she grows on" explores the remnants of what we leave behind. At its core it is anchored in grief, loss and trauma, but what has unfolded is a multiplicity into absence-presence, motherhood and what binds it together, metamorphosis.
“Having just completed my masters on the subject of grief, loss and trauma and working through this research I'm now exploring how I can take this work and research into the community."
